Tracy's Review: Devil's Daughter (The Ravenels, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

Devil's Daughter (The Ravenels #5)

πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite historical romance authors.  Her Wallflower Series was my favorite, with The Devil in Winter the shining star for me, and I LOVED that we got a quick glimpse into what their lives look like now.  So you can imagine how anxiously I was waiting for Devil's Daughter to be released. It did not disappoint me.  West and Phoebe's story is romantic and humorous (the tea cup scene was particularly amusing to me), while also leaving me with a sense of calm.  Like a warm hug.

We have seen West Ravenel  in the previous 4 books really grow and mature and I was glad to finally get into his head.  He is my favorite kind of hero.  He feels unworthy and too damaged so he doesn't want to "inflict" himself on any woman for life.  Especially Phoebe.  While all he can see about himself are the mistakes and transgressions from the past, others see his big heart, fantastic sense of humor, great work ethic and intelligence.  I particularly enjoyed how natural and entertaining West's rapport was with Phoebe's children. 😍😍  I actually teared up when he explained to Phoebe why he couldn't be with her.  He really tried to stay away from her to protect her from his past.

I will admit to being a tiny bit confused at Phoebe's almost repressed personality.  I expected more fire or gumption from Sebastian and Evie's daughter.  But as she throws off the shadow of being Henry's wife and all that being his caretaker entailed, I finally saw that sass I was expecting.  As I got a good look at what her life had been like, I had a better understanding of why it took so long fir her to really come into herself.

A little bit of intrigue, fantastic characters, excellent humor and amazing sexy times make for a fabulous addition to the Ravenel series.  So worth the wait!
